Know all about how it all started, where all Mouli has performed and what all has she achieved.
She comes from a deeply musical family. Her mother, a classical Sitarist, was trained under Mouli’s grandfather, Pt Ramkrishna Chakraborty. He was a gurubhai — a fellow disciple under the same Guru — of the legendary Sitar Maestro Pt Ravi Shankar. Surrounded by melodies, discipline, and devotion from an early age, she inherited not just training — but tradition. For Mouli, music is not merely learned. It is lived.
Mouli’s love for Hindustani classical music began almost as soon as she could speak — at the age of three, under the gentle guidance of her mother. By five, she was already charming audiences in her very first public performance. Her musical path then blossomed under the mentorship of Smt. Gowri Dasgupta, where dedication met discipline. By the age of twelve, Mouli had completed her foundational and first-level classical training — and was confidently performing live on stage, captivating listeners with both skill and soul.
Life took a transformative turn when Mouli moved from Chennai to Kolkata — a shift that would shape her musical destiny. It was there that she met her Guruji, Pt Ajoy Chakraborty, for the very first time. Under his guidance began twelve years of rigorous, immersive training — a journey marked by discipline, devotion, and deep musical exploration. With him, Mouli delved into multiple forms of Indian Classical Music, including Khayal, Thumri, and elements of Dhrupad, absorbing not only technique but the philosophy and soul of the tradition. Those years did not just refine her voice — they shaped her artistry.
